Sure Kheldhren , jump in. Have your race files sent to Micha by 5-14-07.

It's looking like a small packed universe so far.

SMALL PACKED! Shocked <weak laugh> I'll have to make sure my race is good for that. Uh Oh

Is it possible that we could have a bit more space? Same density medium size?

Small packed is plenty of space for up to 9 players, we only have 7 Razz

After talking with Micha I want to clarify a couple of issues.

1st: If a player drops out I don't intend to replace them, but I will announce they have become inactive.

2nd: If there is a dispute, I will ask a neutral 3rd party to look into it to keep things fair.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I having now recovered from a system crash (Stars! returned some bizarre error about ntdll.dll being broken!).

If this is still open I will send my race file over shortly.

Right, race file sent.

Any idea on what time of day the turns will be generated?

If I can I'd like to submit my turns during my lunch hour, but that'll only work (I suspect) for some days due to the time difference, so it would be useful to know if I have to submit on Tue-Sat or Mon-Fri.

Ta!

As soon as Micha contacts me letting me know I have 8 valid race files I'll send the files to autohost asap.

I will gen the game turns between 7-8 AM EST (GMT -5) M-F before I leave for work each day, that gives everyone plenty of time, even those in Europe.

Micha tells me we have 8 races. He's double checking them before sending them to me. I need to have your race name, and e-mail address to send the data to autohost. The only thing I don't need is your Pass Word, only Micha will know those.

We will be playing in a small packed with 30 planets per player, as planned.

Micha has races from the following players.

Captain Maim
Kal Zekdor
Traveller
Leknufrag
Dashiva
Kelzar
Oldmetalhead
Thor
SgtWilko

That is 240 / 9 = 27 planets per player. If you are a total newbie (like me) then please take some time to read the following information.

http://starsautohost.org/gamesnew.htm

Also Micha has told me that he is allowing us until this weekend to revise and resubmit our races. I quote Micha (there are some that are pretty bad ...)

Homeworlds will be spaced approximately 250ly apart. Which is good for stargate tech trading.

A little clostrophobic for me but I think I'll be able to manage.

This is a beginners game (Micha does confirm that, with his comment on the quality of some of the races Cool ), but still it has to stay playable and enjoyable if we do not want people to turn away from the game due to bad experiences.

The planet per player ratio is a quite important factor that plays a decisive role in serious race design. You should design your race to be competitive with the number of planets you can expect to grab that are usefull.

Initial game setup allowed for 30 planets per player. Including you as a 9th player has put this back to 27, and this has been said to be going towards claustrofobic. Including Soobie would bring this down to 24.

It is not only just about allowing one more player into the game... it is about forcing everybody already in that is serious about race design to change theirs to meet significantly different starting conditions than the ones they started their initial design with.

If we were esteemed intelligent 'enough', they would have contacted us.
If we can not find them, either we are not smart enough, or they are smarter at hiding.

I understand your frustration, I've been waiting for months, and finally broke down and decided just to host my own beginers game. I set a deadline of 5-14-07 for races, you just missed it, sorry Smile

Once I get this running smoothly I will host (but not play) in a 2nd beginers game. So go ahead and design a race for that game with the same 30 ish planets per player density.

Conrad.

Quote:

Galaxy size be small and density will depend on the number of players but will contain approximately 30 planets per player.

After talking to Micha, he told me that 9 players would most likely result in a better initial game positioning 3 X 3 fairly evenly spaced with distant starting positions. One player will be in the middle (good or bad depending on your play style).

Adding a 10th player would spoil that even distritbution and also cramp the game too much. If I had notice sooner I would of changed to a medium game, but it's too late to change density from small packed to medium normal, that also effects race designs since travel times are much longer in normal density.
