I would like to start / host a new game, but I've never done it before (just played). The game will consist of two teams, divided equally (if possible):
Team 1 - The Survivors
Jack of all Trades (CANNOT pick "NAS") OR
One (1) Claim Adjuster
One (1) Interstellar Traveller
One (1) War Monger (see below)
One of the Survivors is a "Convict", War Monger. His planetary range must be set so it equals "One in Six Planets" so clearly his team-mates will have to help and give him the choicest worlds to maximize is ass-kicking potential.
This way, this team is well rounded, with, hopefully, one person filling each of a valuable role.
Team 2 - The Monsters
Super Stealth
Also cannot pick "NAS"
Now team 1 and team 2 must set eachother to "enemy" for the whole game.
Team 1 wins when Team 2 is dead.
Team 2 wins when Team 1 is dead.
UNIVERSE:
Large, Dense, Distant
Accelerated BBS
Public Player Scores
Galaxy Clumping
Now... how would I go about collecting files, and hosting, or would someone like that honor so I can be a monster?

To host the game and set it up you get all the race files, generate the game and send out the .xy and .m files to all the players. They send back the .xy files and you gen the next turn by starting the game and opening the .hst file.
To send in everything to Autohost you first request a slot for the game then send Ron all the files after you have genned the game and he sets up a game page for it.
Now, since you are creating a team game, are you looking at trying to keep the team players near each other at the start? If so, then you need to re-map the universe or, move the player HW's around so that they are all on the same side of the galaxy. Normally it is easier to set up a 2 team game as north vs. south since it isn't difficult to move HW's north or south.
You state that the game has 3 teams but only 2 are defined. I gather that the '3 teams' may be a typographical error. How many players per team? (I think team 2 will win).
If you want someone to examine the race files and set up the game - I can do that for you. You can still play in it and host it after it gets started.

Please send to chris.sundquist AT gmail.com.
Also, see up top for revised team rules.
Also, Ptolemy, do I just send you the files when I get them, so you can set it up and still let me play?

All the info you need for sending the stuff in to Ron you can find from the How to Start a Game section of Autohost here:
http://starsautohost.org/gamesnew.htm
You are going to need someone to verify files and perhaps be available as a moderator / monitor. I'm willing to do that for you if you want. You may also want the game start set up if you're not familiar with moving planets around or getting things genned in such a way that you have teams together. I can do that for you also if you want.
If you really want a 3rd party host, I can even do that for you. The main reason you may want a 3rd party host would be that the host is impartial and will treat all hold/regen requests, or complaints, equally and without prejudice. There are sometimes valid cases for all 3 these (though very seldom do I see a valid reason for a re-gen - but it does happen once in a great while).
Also, having a 3rd party host does help in the event that you need a replacement player since the race password is readily available - although, in a team game I expect the team members will be synchronizing the password anyway.
Let me know what you want to do.

OK - get all the race files and send them to me. Have the players then e-mail me their passwords. Send me the files at:
whsmith at welho dot com
I'll gen the game and move the HW's so each team is together.
One note -
When I move the HW's, all ships on moved planets are going to have the first turn with strange starting locations showing. I'll manually generate the first turn for everyone before sending the game files to AH in order to set all the ships correctly at each HW. You're game will start then in 2401 with 1 year pop growth for each player. Since I will not put anything in the build queues, no factories or mines will get built.

Some things that raise questions.

A bit confused here ... "teams divided equally if possible", that means you have no set team size? IOW the teams can have 4 players or 6 or 8, ... ? Depending on how many players want to join?
Quote: | Team 1 - The Survivors
Jack of all Trades (CANNOT pick "NAS") OR

You say "OR", does that mean this team can only have one of them and more of the other not listed PRTs? Or does the entire team has to be the same PRT? ... ?
Quote: | One of the Survivors is a "Convict", War Monger. His planetary range must be set so it equals "One in Six Planets" so clearly his team-mates will have to help and give him the choicest worlds to maximize is ass-kicking potential.

Wouldn't know why to give the WM the best? CA, JoaT both have easily a bigger econ than the WM.
Why the hab range? No limit to the other teammembers? With a team of 4+ and a decent pre-game team design all members would end up with even less than "1 in 6" hab ... They DO get to get together to design the team? Right?!? So you can't ask for race files yet! Do you want all members of the same team to pick their habs "blind" and all end up with the same hab?
And I hope you realize the power of a CA in a team game!
Anyway with limiting the PRTs you need to find players first that are willing to form a team and divide the PRTs and design the races together ...
Quote: | This way, this team is well rounded, with, hopefully, one person filling each of a valuable role.
|
Hm, so it looks like all four of those PRTs are allowed, but only one of each in Team1? What if you get a team of 5? Would an IS be allowed? Now THAT would make a good Riddick.
Hey, here's an idea: add an IS race to the game, played by a neutral party (Ptolemy?), have it build tachyon nubs in turn 2400 (hacking the exe) and every 5 years or randomly transfer a few of them to the WM of Team1 that has to delete the ships the same turn he receives them. That way the SS races are exposed every now and then. Like Riddick taking off his goggles.

Team 2 - The Monsters
Super Stealth
Also cannot pick "NAS"

So that team is all SS, that I understand, saw the movie.

Well, the eam wouldnt get together beforehand, since following the movie theme, no-one knows eachother beforehand. Therefore, some people might have planets others want, but they have to work together before the Monsters stomp them.
Divided equally is possible means teams of 4 or 5 or 6, etc... but if there are 13 players, we clearly cant have even teams.
The Survivors will be all JoaT's, but they can have One (1) of each of the pointed-out races. Therefore in an 8 on 8 game, there'll be 5 JoaT's, 1 CA, 1 IT, and 1 WM.
I thought the WM would be a good ally to have with cheaper weapons, dreadnoughts, battle cruisers, and so forth, therefore although the JoaT might have better "econ" the Warmonger would be more effective with the same resources.
His hab range is so that his effectiveness will not be apparent until he works together with the other races on his side (again, movie theme here). I thought it would be snazzy.
The Tachyon nubs is a pretty snazzy idea, too... every 5 years the cloaking gets dropped. If anyone knows how to do that, that would be a fun addition.

Thought it was because no-one knew eachother beforehand but this sound nice in theory, practically however without at least talking about habs you can have a "dead" team before the game even starts ... Having 2 races with almost the same habs makes one useless ... no fun for the players of those races either.

Means the players that happens to have chosen the same habs as the WM see their race become pretty useless, or that the WM just will not turn out that way that he will be the big guy that you were looking for ...

Just hack a Stars!.exe with Stars!Ed and make the nub hull+tachyons availabe from turn 2400, and make the costs zero. That way the neutral race can build 1000s of them for free.
I think Ptolemy knows how to do that. That is of course if you decide to implement the idea.
Here's another one: place Team1 rather close together in the centre and place the Monsters all around them. Though maybe too much advantage for Team1 because they can work together sooner ...

Well, ok, how about this:
I make ALL the races, and then people just tell me who they wanna be. That way, the races on the teams have conveniently arranged hab ranges.
I didn't think it would make the players useless, since they start many many light years away from eachother, not in a tiny little cluster. In a lot of my games I have the same hab ranges as my neighbors, and since we each have our own territories, we're far from useless, we just agree where our borders are.
How does this sound?
Might be a moot point anyways, I've had zero response from interested parties.

Based on the concept of the game I'd recommend that all the races are pre-created. As a player in the game, if you were to create the races, all race parameters must be public to everyone since you would know them. Alternately, someone else can create the races for you. That way nobody knows the paramaters of any given race.
As far as hacking the .exe goes - that is not a problem. A gazillion tachyon nubs with complete scanners can easily be created.

Since I'm not really interested in the game I can make the races.
