Well, actually it indeed seems like a good idea ... it would tell you if cloacked fleets were trying to sneak through, and give you the design etc. That's in theory ... however you soon forget about the minefield, that can lead to a few things :
- you forget replenishing it and the MF disappears
- you do have a minelayer adding new mines but the minefield grows to big, you don't notice and KABOOM there go your own ships
- a bit like above, a lone MML wonders into the field, adds a bit too many extra mines or shifts the fields out off the centre and puts it somewhere in orbit ...
- ships on a two or more year route happen to have their deepspace waypoint nicely in the middle of the field (and no doubt that fleet is your warfleet with 10.000s of chaff )
Best to check all your field every turn, that's why it would be a REALLY nice to browse through your fields like browsing through your ships ...
