Catastrophic Failure of Star Dazer Comm Network

The Star Dazer security council was appalled this year when the entire communications network went down for nearly a full day. Apparently, all communications are being routed through a backwater world called Earth where they are combined and retransmitted once a day (except for weekends). A communications spokesperson babbled something about "using the lowest bidder". When a wind storm (they don't even have climate control yet) in the Seattle area knocked out power, our whole communications grid went down; ships didn't move, production queues sat empty, research wasn't re-prioritized, diplomatic messages weren't sent, etc. Power has been restored, but it would cost too much to move our communications center. Hopefully, this won't be a frequent occurrence.
