The community (especially back then) was VERY protective of serial numbers, and very supportive of the Jeffs. Because you never knew how your game would be screwed up by sharing them, and because the game wasn't expensive. So you won't see a lot of support for figuring out banned serials.

And even back then, serials were relatively cheap--you could buy them at discounted rates in blocks of 16! (I still have my printout of the email with them).
