It was a very fun game, and the problems I had playing as the Patriots were self-created.

I think the MT's were a larger factor for some than for others. Non-comm made them more of an issue than normal, actually. If I could've spoken to neighbors about grabbing an MT, I think I might have succeeded with at least two more. As it ended up, I received three of them and lost a fleet full of minerals trying to catch another. Within my neighborhood (The SouthWest 1/4th of the map) we were relatively even.

The Patriots were off to a great start for the first thirty years. Good building, no interference from the HE to the north, and the IS to the south was content to just build quietly. I was in first place for several years due to high res, and hit W10 early. I had enough minerals and tech to build W10 CC's and make an attack.

Then it went rather south.

I decided to attack the HW of my IS neighbor instead of taking out his border worlds. To quote my statement after dangling my friend by his feet off the balcony in college, "It seemed like a good idea at the time". It wasn't. Although I took out his HW fleet and nearly destroyed his HW, he came back with a vengeance and we fought like an IS and WM for several decades.

We exchanged planets for a very long time (2460-2495). Neither of us were bothered by our neighbors, because they were both fighting other wars. I was close to having something that could be called the upper hand, when disaster struck. The Curses (I can't remember their symbol name) attacked me from the north with a mixed set of fleets and Mass Packets. I lost 4-5 large worlds and had to pull back to face both adversaries.

This was at the end of the first century, and I did not recover. I built a rather nice fleet and harassed the Curses for the remainder of the game, while giving up my lands to Player 6. His disbelief that I had left entire worlds with 200 pop on them kept him from taking full advantage of the situation. It was still, in my opinion, a good game.

Victor.
