Lots of research, nmid, thank you for that
Unfortunately no solution...
The problem is as skoormit surmised not double-clicking, but a held click that shouldn't be treated as a held click.
To go down you list:
1. The mouse works fine in non-XP mode. In fact it seems the problem only occurs in Stars!, but I haven't tried that many applications in XP mode.
1a. Logitech Wireless Trackball M570.
2. Yes
2a. I am not sure how to do that
3. I tried replacing the mouse with a new mouse of the same model, as I was having double-click problems with all applications and both in XP mode and non-XP mode (problably a hardware problem), but that did not help with the problem in Stars!, though it helped in all other applications. I have a cabled Logitech mouse I could try, if the problem gets too irritating, but I would prefer to solve the problem without having to change to that cabled mouse.
I tried AutoHotkey and the Buggy-Mouse script, but that did not help - Probably because that script is intended to solve double-click issues, not held-click issues. It may be that AutoHotkey could solve the problem, but I would have to find out what variables to affect in the script, and working that out would probably take some time.
