I don't really find backups of just the .M file very useful. I like to have the .H file also for the year I'm looking at.

For games I host, the Basic series, I'm emailed every turn for every player and I have a backup directory with a sub-directory for every turn (2400 to 2599) with every turns .M & .H file in it.
