I like the special rule but could you expand and clarify. I assume this would be both in an out of game messages. No communication through ship names. Nonverbal communication allowed? Tech or ship trading allowed? Any required setting for in game players relations? Personally think you need to allow nonverbal communication but might be a good idea to require enemy settings and ban all trades. Regardless would like to know before creating a non monster race Very Happy


I was waiting for someone to ask, because now we get to have a philosophical discussion about the definition of communication. Rolling Eyes

The intent of the rule is to create a game that is similar for each us to playing against the AI, except much, much smarter.

Yes, it applies to communications in game and out of game.

No, since that is communication. I'm deliberately not asking "what do you mean by nonverbal communication" because it doesn't matter. If it is communication, it is not allowed.

I really hope this doesn't need to be policed, because while I can certainly come up with some gray area scenarios, there are many, many things under "nonverbal communication" that are obviously over the line.

Again, the principle of the rule is that we should pretend we are playing a very smart AI.

I don't see how it is possible to trade if you can't communicate. You could, I suppose, in theory, *gift* tech or ships, and hope that the recipient *gifts* something back to you, and no actual communication need take place. But I fear that would prove a temptation for players to confer pre-game on their strategies. So I will say:

NO. You cannot trade ships or tech. You may not transfer ships to another player, you may not scrap ships at another player's starbase, you may not send ships for the sole purpose of being shot down and providing tech, you may not intentionally provide weak planets to be invaded for tech gain, and you cannot do anything else to trade tech that I haven't specifically listed here.

And if it is not clear: you may *not* communicate with other players pre-game about the specifics of your race.

No, you are free to set players as friend/neutral/enemy as you see fit. You can *be* a peaceful neighbor, you just can't say "Hi. I'm peaceful. You may use my stargates and date my daughters."

And here we go down the philosophical rabbit hole. What if I name a scout ship "Hello"? Is that communication? What if I name an early skirmisher "Keep Out"? It is very, very hard to define what would exactly constitute communication via ship names. Obviously "I'm Attacking Nope in 2424" is straight out. But what about "Attack"? What about "FF Horde Ship"?

Rather than try to define exactly what you can/cannot name your ships, I will simply ask players to abide by the principle of the rule. Do not name your ships with an intent to communicate to other players.



What we need's a few good taters.
