Interesting to read.
SAS1 was also won by an HE, if I recall correctly a true slow HP HE paired together with a SD. A combination that worked very well, especially since they stayed loyally together for the whole game:
In the beginning the HE got the very much needed protection from the SD minefields, later on the SD would had gotten into serious trouble but then the HE helped out.
