I thought he was talking about a testbed with robotoid AI, i think these are much better, as they will show if you're race is definitely to slow or far spread.

A 3i AR can get 10-20k resources in 2450 in an empty testbed, but put a robotoid AI there and you're 2450 resources will at least be halved and you actually have to do something to avoid losing.
A typical CA monster on the other hand will probably show little difference in resources in 2450 with or without AI present.
