Any pointers on dealing with negative comments from other players? I understand mud-slinging is part of the game, but when does it go too far?
My situation: I'm currently in a game of Stars! that specified you had to have played in less than 10 PBEM games (this is my first). I've played against the AI and have been browsing StarBaseDelta for months reading the posts and the strategy guide. So when I finally decided to take the plunge, I got a race from the StarBaseDelta race archive and spent two solid weekends modifying it slightly and test-bedding it for the econ/LRTs I wanted.
I understand why players say I did this or that attrocity (especially since I'm in first place with PPS) to gain sympathy from other players but when a player accuses me of being an expert and just joining the game to "newbie bash", to me that crosses the line. Basically, it's like being called a cheater and that really bothers me.
Any hints? Am I too thin-skinned? Should I just ignore the accusations? When do the comments go too far? Any examples from other games you've participated in?
