... but first I would like to see if anyone has any other ideas for it and/or Xtreme Borders...

I have some suggestions for Xtreme Borders and some questions as well. In the version 1.70 beta there is a movie option in the tools menu. Is this a functioning feature and if so how do you get it to function? I did what I though was required but the Run button never became active.

My other comments about using Xtreme Borders have to do with the fact that none of the control windows have a way to exit them without activating the item. For example I am taking a look at a race's color so that I can set the rest of the players that they are allied with to the same colour. When I hit the x in the top right corner to cancel the window it has to recalculate the universe colours even though I was trying not to change anything. There are other command windows like this (ie. Tools -> Options).

Is there any way to either display fleets on the map using the .f## files or to draw directly on the map? This is why I still use Stars! Notebook (the ability to draw on the map).

Keep up the good work, it is a good piece of software.
