I like to declare games over by amost-unanimous vote. A player can declare any player to be the winner (including themselves), then if any other player disagrees the game continues. The player declaring and the player declared cannot vote against it, everyone else can (this is the almost part). Any vote against it means the game continues. The vote should be secret.

I had these rules in Wonka, and only player used it to point out to other players that some one was running away with the game.

Wonka also had a statement that there would only be one victor, but they could thank other people if they wanted.

People will form alliances, and will keep them even if that means they will lose the game. Other people will not keep them. Both are part of the game (unless there are rules that specificly forbid them).
