OK, I'm going to have to respond to this.
The way the rules have been clarified since the game began are designed, naturally, to fit the kind of game that the host presumably wanted to see: three well defined teams slugging it out.
I have no problem with this kind of game in general, though if you want to avoid a shifting political landscape then I'd suggest it is better to go for pre-arranged teams.
The problem I have is that this is being imposed during the game. For ITES, the way I designed my race and my whole game strategy make it a really tough one for me. I have always wanted to be friends with everybody as long as possible. Normally this is fine, but in this game, after I was already well into building relationships, we were told that it wasn't allowed.
My immediate reaction was to query the ruling with the host, which I did via private email because doing it publically could have compromised the relationships I was building at the time. During that conversation I was told that it is OK to have non-team mates set to friend as long as your team mates agree to it. This, to me, seemed a very sensible position.
Now it seems I'm being told that I'm working a loophole.
I have always understood and been more than happy with the "Only 1 team can win", "max 4 to a team" and "no duplicate PRT" rules. There is nothing in that to prevent me from keeping as many options open as long as possible. There is in the current rulings; I am effectively being told to make all my choices right now and to stick with it whatever happens.
Obviously I'm going to abide by whatever the host rules, but I have to go on record to say I'm not happy about it, and I think that I'm going to enjoy the rest of the game less because of it.

I wish we could, but the rules clarifications seem to be designed prevent it.
