I have three questions, and they are related. I LOVE to play HP CA. Am I insane? Yes

Seeing as a lot of people seem to be playing HG recently, are HPs still viable? and number three, if no to the first and yes to the second, what growth rate is good? I usualy start with con 3, and with anything higher than 15% I seem to have difficulty researching privateers before I hit 25-33%.
