Well, this isn't Orwell's "1984". Though maybe the Watchers will declare a totalitarian party in 2484 just to celebrate the 500th anniversary.

And you might want to be more paranoid about what one's neighbors are up to before worrying what the observer will do. I'm not fielding anything carrying guns yet... (though you'd could almost say the same thing about FO and FAC troops - they're not armed to really hurt anything, are they? Shocked

)

Not to mention there are lots of other literary references to observers/watchers. "The Sentinel" if you're into cheesy horror; the "Watchers" from the Highlander series; a reference to an eye the size of a moon in SF (who made it eludes me at the moment - Heinlein or Niven maybe.)
