This will have to be a huge map. The planets would be split into 5 clusters of reasonably close stars. The clusters should be arranged so that there is a large gap betweeen them (say 3-4 years at warp 10?) Each cluster has two or three players in it.

The victory conditions for this game are that a player must control 4 of the 5 clusters. To control a cluster, there must be no enemy colonies within that cluster.

This means that you don't have to be the only player left in a cluster to claim it, and you only essentially need one colony in a cluster. This will add quite a twist to the diplomacy though, becuase while you want your allies to help you control clusters to win the game, you don't want them claiming 4 clusters and winning before you. Alliances will be unstable, and the player closest to victory will probably suddenly find themselves with no friends...

This should be an interesting game, as it is the equivalent of having forts. Once a cluster is yours, you have a defensive advantage, but you must hold off invaders from other clusters, while trying to gain control of the other clusters.
