I'm not sure how to classify myself. I've played in maybe 5-7 PBEM games of various universe sizes about two or three years ago, and havn't played at all since. I didn't think of myself as "a beginner" until I started reading the forum about "cheats". Now I'm not sure.
I had no knowledge of any "cheats", except for chaff and fleet splitting. Chaff always seemed like a valid tactic to me, and after reading all the views presented by others I still see it as a valid tactic, not a cheat. As for fleet splitting, I never knew how the game mechanics worked, so if I could never split my fleets in a manner which predicted an outcome. It was just a means of saving some of an inferior fleet as opposed to leaving them ALL there as a sitting duck. I never viewed that as a cheat either, although I read how others who know more about the mechanics could exploit it.
Anyway, I might like to play, but to follow the rules I'd need the "chaff disallowed" rule more defined. I'm still not sure exactly what constitutes "chaff" in a game where chaff is disallowed. Obviously, a large number of scout hulls accompanying a war fleet is chaff, but what about a large number of minimally armed or obsolete vessels built on a destroyer hull?
The other cheats I read about were a revelation to me, and obvious exploitation.
Anyway, I'd like to play if you can clarify exactly what "no chaff allowed" means, so the game doesn't come down to an arguement on whether those rules have been violated.

Chaft? Is this in relation to the chaff that gets attacked by torps but not by beamers? I'm still trying to figure that out again.

ZZZo fixed alliances/teams. I hate games where everyone joins hands and sings a happy song till everyone gets omega nubs.

ZZZ, I'm all for fixed teams, that way there's ONE guy who won't hate me, cuz he's not allowed. "Kumbaya my friend, KUMBAYA..." Diplomacy doesn't work well for The Zoid, try to be nice, they think I'm an easy target and attack me. Try to be tough, a lifetime feud erupts and they attack me. Try to be fair, they think I'm an easy target and attack me. Try to be neutral, they think they can't just let me sit by growing in power, so they attack me. Argh, diplomacy!
Actually, either way is fine by me. If everyone wants to bite The Zoid, that's ok too. We got big teeth. Zoid not caring about nicey-nice anymore. Just thinking about the futility of diplomacy has Zoid panties in a bunch all across the galaxy. We just kill everybody, equal opportunity killer. No trespassing, stay away. No talking. See Zoid ship? Zoid planet? No hailing. Stay away. Avoid the Zoid.

The trick is to make people think you're neutral, not to Be neutral. Silly Zoids. Some people are better at not having morals. My people do, for example.

ZZZ? Everyone picking on The Zoid aready. That's it, we just kill everyone we see now. Zoid not liking any neighbors anyways. Neighbors, bah. Zoid see neighbors, we thinking, "There goes the neighborhood. Soon they be ejecting their trash into outer space, strip-mining the place next door, and painting their planet unseemly colors. Property values plummetting." Zoid not needing that. Zoid like Zoid neighbors.
Anyways, when are we gonna begin? I can hardly wait!
