I did some testing on this.

Up to 305 kT, there will be no damage (and the warp setting when setting the waypoint will default to "Use Stargate").

From 306 to 318 kT, "Use Stargate" will display "Danger" and the ships will take damage. However, no ships will be lost to "the treacherous void". Or at least, in over 10,000 such transits I never lost one.

From 319 kT upwards, ships can be lost (a true overgate).

Basically, there's a fair bit of stretch room before you actually start risking ships jumping into oblivion. I vaguely recall seeing something to this effect before, but not the exact numbers. Posey's spreadsheet is definitely wrong about this.

My guess is this is due to rounding down damage and void chances. According to the formula on the wiki:

mass dmg vanish
305 0.83% 0.27%
306 1.00% 0.32%
312 1.99% 0.64%
318 2.98% 0.95%
319 3.14% 1.01%

So if it rounds down both numbers it would agree with your observation. A lot of plausible designs clock in at just over 300kt, so it's very good to know that 305, 312 and 318 are good breakpoints to look for.

I've edited the formula on the wiki. The factor for void losses compared to damage isn't actually 32%, it's 1/3. Proven by the 1%/2% jump being at 336/337 and 375kT giving 4% (technically this only restricts it to between 33.03 and 33.58, but 1/3 seems logical).
