Tech trading would be impossible if comms are not allowed.

And will someone watch over this ?

Anyway, count me in

Seven and counting. (We have surpassed the minimum. Eight is the optimum.)

Game 2 (starting no sooner than mid-Dec):
Asmodai (for comms)
fpunderl33t (for comms)
grzeg-t (against comms)
kicks (against comms)
Mac1 (no vote registered)
XAPBob (for comms)
skoormit ("meh") (will drop if game overfills)
HOST: nmid

Option for: Tomasoid

Comms: The original post specified no-comms. One player proposed changing that to comms allowed. Two players are against that proposal. Three players are for. One players is "meh". One player has not yet expressed an opinion.

What we need's a few good taters.

If you need a tie breaker, I will join with a vote for no communications as stated in the op. I can have a race submitted in 72 hours.
edit: Ready to go. sending race file now
edit: edit: Here is an easy fix for the dispute. All players for comms may use comms, all players against comms may not. Those players that wish to communicate must declare (to all players) via in game message at 2400. Non comms players will know who to target first without using communication or messing about with diplomacy. I think that would be fascinating. A little test of the berserker hypothesis, if you will.

Sorry but I am interested only in no comm games, that's the reason why I choosed to play this one: it was clearly stated and I am not turning the tables.

this said, my race is ready.

Eight players total interested.

Four players prefer no comms.
Three players prefer with comms.
One player with no preference.

The simplest approach is to split to two games (one with comms, one without).

Player list for game with no comms:
grzeg-t
kicks
Mac1
neilhoward

Player list for game with comms:
Asmodai
fpunderl33t
XAPBob

Players who will play either way:
skoormit (will drop if game overfills)

HOST: nmid (pending confirmation; it has been a while since he volunteered)

Option for: Tomasoid

If anyone wants to change their preference, let me know.

That changes the game quite a bit. Would these smaller games be in small packed unis then? Small Packed (right number of stars per player) could be stretched (with a remap) to restore the 2.5 stars/10000ly^2.

Nope. Two lists of players, each waiting on six (minimum) to eight (optimum).

I'm just checking in after quite some time.. (Thanks for the pm Skoormit).

From what I'm seeing there is a more .. definitive tilt towards no-comm. (Kicks would not be comfortable with comms).
I feel that a fuller game would be more livelier.
So for the 3 ppl who want comms, (Asmodai, fpunderl33t, XAPBob) would you still be interested if it's a no-comms game?
or, as Skoormit suggested, we just wait for 2 games to fill up to 6 players each.

If everyone can please pm me their email ids with their forum names and race files...
or mail me on "nomoreidsleft at gmail dttt com"

My pet peeve in a no-comms game is the fear that someone might be breaking the rules (point 1) or there is a monster feeding on a noob on the other side of the universe, while I'm fighting against well matched players on my side of the universe (point 2).
Point 1 > I would prefer to keep player names anonymous along with randomising race names.
Point 2 > I announce the top 4 players (hiding the weakest 4) every 25 years?

ps - Please don't have any passwords on the game files as checking on turns becomes a massive pain irrespective of some nifty suggestions that Neil gave me for an earlier game.

I concur. Anonymous player names and randomized race names prevents incidental in-game knowledge about your neighbors. ("Oh, look, it's the MumbleHeads. That's what skoormit calls his narrow-hab WM. I better watch out for an early ff horde.")

Quote:

Point 2 > I announce the top 4 players (hiding the weakest 4) every 25 years?

I disagree with this, for a few reasons.
For one, announcing the top 4 reveals the bottom 4 by inference.
For another, people are just as likely to use this information to gang up on the weak rather than to band together against the strong.
Finally, providing such an announcement decreases the importance of doing one's own scouting to make one's own assessment of the state of the universe.

Question, does the F10 report show when *other* races have broken VCs? I assime not... (obviously only relevant before the VCs are enabled)

IIRC, yes, the F10 report shows check marks as other races achieve VCs. People have used this feature to define a type of limited Public Player Scores, wherein the PPS checkbox is unchecked, but VCs are defined in such a way as to reveal certain benchmarks as races achieve them. For example, a VC of "Has 1 Capital Ship" might tell you who just built the first BB.

In this game, however, as currently configured, the question is moot. As soon as one race gets one VC, that race is declared the victor.

IIRC as well, the F10 report will not show checkboxes for other races before the minimum years required for victory have elapsed.

Always looking for players. If you are interested in this particular game, just say the word and I'll put you on the list. If not this particular game, keep watching the threads. I'm sure another new-player-friendly game will start up soon.

Should we set a deadline for all the races to come in?
Say either the 19th or the 26th?

The email id for all the races is nomoreidsleft at gmail dttttttt com
