Yep, wait...

For info I was on DOSbox on Win7. I'm sure it will still be as is after the game (It's not my primary playing space)

I'm running it using Wine on Ubuntu via VMWare on Windows 8. Has anyone tried playing it on something that runs Stars natively without any extras? My weird setup could certainly cause display bugs, I can't imagine Virtual PC or DOSbox on Windows 7 is much of a problem but you never know.

I suppose I could boot up my 386SX33 running Windows 3.1 and see if it catches on fire. But then what would I use to prop the basement door open for the dogs?

Of course, I'll need to find a floppy disk to get the files over to it. Rolling Eyes

What we need's a few good taters.

That sounds like quite a good idea, I'm sure I've got a 486 in my pile of parts. I might be the first person this century to submit a turn using the original operating system for Stars.

I run Stars! in Windows 8 32-bit version with no add-on, works fine.

I also keep a laptop with Windows-XP for some testbeds.

You can't run STARS! natively in XP as its native environment is Windows 3.11 which required DOS to run. So in a sense, STARS! native environment is DOS.

I do play in Windows XP though and I never had it crash a single time on me. If I try to start several 16 bits programs at the same time (read: more than one) then one of them fail to start but I'm pretty sure it has to do with wowexec.exe which in turn is only a subprogram of ntvdm.exe.
