If we have around 12 players in a medium universe, has any thought been given to splitting into two games according to the players time zones? I don't have much experience as a host, but I might be able to fill that role in the game I was not signed up for.

This game was
Quote:

Medium, packed, distant.
BBS checked

At least 6 players.

from the beginning.

The last time I counted, with the Count*, 12 was at least more then 6.

Now if you want to start a game with

Medium, packed, distant.
BBS checked
Only the first 6 players

Then I'm all for it.

* Count from Sesame Street
Edit:my second most favorite, after Bert and Ernie, of course I was 12 when the first program aired.

If I may chime in...

The medium packed universe will contain 540 planets, which leaves 45 planets on the average for each one of 12 players who have joined. I'd say that's a decent number of planets to build a sizable economic powerbase, and quite fast at that. At the same time it guarantees that we'll run into each other fairly early, triggering all sorts of interesting gameplay situations.

If we upgraded to large, this would make 910 planets, which makes almost 76 planets per player, over almost twice the galaxy area. This number of planets will take almost twice the time to colonize and build up, and quite a time will pass before players start encroaching on someone else's territories. IMHO, changing to large will make the first 50 years (at least) be spent mainly scouting, colonizing and building up the economy - something I've been doing for countless testbeds to date.

No Random Events (it was discussed to have it checked) adds an interesting twist to the game, and maybe lets those less "blessed" with mineral concentrations even out the odds with technology they may gain from MTs or artifacts. Then again, it might go the opposite route - but hey, that's the beauty of the game.

To sum it up, it seems to me that the host has thought out the concept of the game, and has a certain idea in mind. Let's just respect the host's idea and try it out. We have submitted our races, which means we're interested in playing this game - else we would just stay out, right?

Good luck to all participants... now let's kick some alien a$$ Smile

Funny.. I keep trying to "like" certain posts.. Wonder if Ron wants to put a "like" button in?

I look forward to playing all of you.. in our tight medium universe. I've been testbesting all week with 11 AIs..and I see a neighbor usually within 4 turns. Smile

A quick Update from work, the rest in the Evening:

ccmaster got me a race file this morning, which I'll take with me as well if there are no objections.

Dave sent me a new file which is no longer corrupt but forgot to give me the new race password. Hope he gets it to me till the evening. Rolling Eyes

So with you, you'll be 13, a good number unless you start on a Monday I guess Surprised

Ooookaaay. Here we go.

The universe is genned, it is not perfect, but true equality is hard to achive with 13 players in this universe. Without remapping (which is something I don't know how to do and don't have the time to work into) this is the best I believe possible.

The fact that there are several of the two-planet races on the map further intertangles the strategic situation Smile

So expect some serious fighting in the early game.

I'm zipping everything up and send it to Ron so that he can create the game.

As already offered to Ashley: If you need an arbiter, let me know, I'll do my best.

Happy fighting!

This is going to be fun!

May I suggest the even numbered players breath in first then breath out the following year at the same time as the odd numbered players breath in. Repeat like this until the end of the game.

This will avoid the issue of every race breathing in at the same time and there being insufficient room. Very Happy

BeeKeeper, are you afraid of the void? Smile

With so much space between the stars we aren't even supposed to breathe air Smile

Just bring your own oxygen supply. And a decent rebreather. You'll be fine, trust me Very Happy

Torben, thanks a lot for helping set this up. This is a very tedious task and I'm sure everyone who's playing is thankful for your work!

You're welcome. I'm glad to give a bit back to the community who set up games I am participating in.

Actually, the most time went into all the mailings back and forth, Thanks to nmid (and a bit of tweaking of myself) the actual genning was quite fast. I'll add my experience to the thread opened in the hosting forum Smile

Haven't you been paying attention lately?

PP's the 'IN' race this year, everyone's been playing it.

With 13 players I'd say we'll have about 5 of them

If we had our xy and m files, perhaps we could spend our time crafting the 1st turn... Pirate

IT start with 2 planets also

Edit:my mistake, there are no IT AI's. I guess it would be hard to automate a workable advantage for them in the AI engine.

There's no IT ai, only PP.

I genned a game with 12 AI's, two of them PP. This is going to be good. I hope anyone didn't pick AR Very Happy. (Or that the ones who did start next to me...)
