Hi folks,

It's 2401 and a player set a password in 2400 and now can't get in. First, I'd like to understand my options. Second, I'd like to know what's the fastest way out of this so we can get the game moving again!

Here are the options as I see them:

  1. Ron - I recall reading somewhere that Ron has a way of reseting passwords.
  2. Regen - I can change all of the upload passwords, restore back to 2400, re-use the existing X files, and update the one player's X file to remove the password and regen, then tell everyone their new upload password. Yes? No?
  3. Regen #2 - Simply restore back to 2400 and let folks resubmit - by far the easiest option, but there could be some things in 2401 people would benefit from.

What are the others? And which would you recommend?

Cheers,
Void

PaulCr was able to help in one similar instance last year, when a dropout couldn't be bothered to reveal his password to his replacement. Hit over head

I guess I can help you there. If you give me access to the players current m file I can set its' password to anything player wants. It will be in effect immidiately, no need to skip a turn. Also no need to regen.

Seems like it's too late and you already did a regen. So, never mind. Smile

We did, but (1) I appreciate the offer and (2) it's good to know this option is available!

My StarsPWD.pl utility can strip the password off .M or .HST file as well.

I can reset a password, as I have a debug version of stars.exe.

Absolutely, and a valued service you've been providing to the Stars! community for literally (I think) decades.

https://github.com/ricks03/TotalHost/blob/master/scripts/Sta rsPWD.pl will do it; TotalHost actually has the Remove Password function built into the host admin panel using that code.

It was the core function I always wanted, because of just how d###ed frustrating it can be to have a player quit and lock you out.
