Hi folks,

Good news - we have a universe!

Game files have been zipped up and sent to Ron. I'm in the process of sending each person their initial .M file along with the galaxy's .XY file, so you can start your plotting.

It took a number of iterations to find a galaxy that did not disproportionately reward or penalize any one player. To ease that process, I removed any passwords from the race files you sent, so don't be surprised when you open up your turn file without having to enter a password. Don't worry - I'm being very careful to ensure I send the correct M file to each person. Also, AutoHost sends each player their own upload/download password, so only you can access your files.

For the record, the great Iron and good Germ concentrations are just the luck of the draw. As I reviewed each universe I was focused mainly on ensuring fair starting positions.

As the neutral third party, I assume my duties include randomly checking to ensure game rules are being honored, so I've asked Ron to send turn files to me, also. If that was presumptuous on my part, it's easily undoable, but since the host is playing I figured that was part of the job. Obviously, I will not be discussing this game with anyone - in the game or out - until after its conclusion.

Let me know if I've missed anything. And best of luck to all of you in the game.

Cheers,
Void

That is fine, you can have access to the turn files.

Thanks for your help in getting this game going.

It looks like this is set up on autohost now, thanks again Ron.

All players remember, if you change your racefile password, you need to let Void know what you changed it to.

All right lets have some fun. Smile

Many thanks to Void for setting up the universe for us. I assume starting positions are random, so player number does not give any indication as to a player's HW?

I will find out soon enough but do we have PPS?

Can I make a small plea to all players to make this a good natured game? Lots of blood and guts in the game but if anyone has any issues about other players I think the best thing is for people to talk to each other and get things out into the open and not bottle up their anger.

Bottled Anger... that's what fuels Antimatter Torpedos yet keeps 'em light. Twisted Evil

My pleasure.

Correct. Everything is random - no manual adjustments or artifices have been injected into the game. The only thing screened out, if you will, were galaxies that had skewed starting positions or very large voids around somebody's homeworld.

No. Per the initial posting, the only settings selected on the game definition page were: Small, normal, distant, SLOW TECH, ACC BBS.

The reach of that hurricane must be getting bigger. Just tried uploading my turn for 2401 and I get a message saying there is a server error. I suspect this is something only Ron can fix.
Anyone else have the same problem?

No problems here.

It's always a good idea to email the host your turn file in situations like this.

They can either upload it for you OR it is evidence you submitted in time.

Yes, it is now working for me. I don't know what the problem was but perhaps Irene has now passed through. I was the last to submit so I suspect it is about to generate.

a few moments later...it just did.

Not sure if this registered with anybody, but I generated the game according to the settings defined on the original posting. That is, without checking No Random Events.

I made a point of validating that the restrictions on the original posting reflected all decisions, but failed to validate that of the game settings. Sorry about that, for now you will have the MT.

I leave it to the host to determine the proper course of action. I see three immediate options:

(1) Continue playing with the MT
(2) Continue playing and agree to NOT meet the MT
(3) Restart the game with 'No Random Events'

Apologies for the inconvenience.

Cheers,
Void

Option 2 preferred.

Option 3 I can live with.

I prefer option 1, I can live with option 2 but would be deeply unhappy with option 3.

I agree, anything but Option 3. The gaming is going along at a cracking pace. It was a very close vote - 4 against 3 IIRC on whether the MT was used, so I hope we can all live with the outcome of this second vote.
