Altruist's Fledgling Admirals VII rules are good | Game Rules
1) No pregame alliances: Players aren't allowed to get in contact with each other before to optimize their race designs for a later alliance.
2) Using chaff, split-fleet dodge and the repair after gating loophole is ok, all other "cheats" are forbidden and most likely lead to your disqualification, for more info see the thread: Known Bugs (JRC3) - Player Exploitable Bugs / "Features" (or ask the host when in doubt)
3) Only one other player may be set to friend and traded tech with at any one time, all others must be set to enemy. You can change an ally after the alliance lasted for 10 years or more.

It looks like there is some interest, but only one race file received so far.

waiting for the cheat disclaimer (min damage point..) and the universe size..
If it's a really fast game, like tiny with 9 players, I'm in !
I don't want diplomacy.. just fast fights.
I know my minefields.. but I'm a chaff sweeper.

Just my two cents about it but if, as per your game discussion in the bar, you want a game that isn't the normal "it's the economy" setting.. then it has to be something really jam-packed..
unless you are going in for the other though process in that thread... about a vanilla game option.

Could you please update the 1st post with the confirmed player list who are playing so far and when do we tentatively aim to start.
Regards,
Nmid.

I just wanted to say, since Neil seems to have simply copy/pasted this from another game, that condition #3 is really easy to misunderstand.
You see, an ally is completely independent from setting other players to friend. For example, for me an ally is any other player with who you plan together to work for a certain common goal.
In this other game I am playing, with the exact same wording, the game turned out to be a very huge alliance against pretty much the rest of the game... Because NAPs are allowed and that only tech trading is restricted with setting other players to friends, having an ally or an alliance is not restricted at all.
So, in reality, the last part of #3 (You can change an ally after the alliance lasted for 10 years or more.) only mean that you cannot change the player you have set to friend before 10 years have past.
This have absolutely nothing to do with allies.
I sure got had in my current game, so I simply wish to give a friendly warning. Don't plan the game to turn out to be 2 players team fighting against eachother. This is a normal game with some tech trade restriction, that's all.

If you want a straight game with alliances no bigger than 2 and all against all... the above rule is, indeed, tricky. In the quoted rule it is intended that players, even if there are not allies, can communicate with each other, set up NAPs and borders.
IMHO it is good to allow and encourage communication and cooperation between players. Apart from the fun some players have with diplomacy (weird beings those), it considerably raises the learning curve.
Later on I added that all offensive battle orders must target for enemies/neutrals. Together with the tech trade restriction, this is to discourage the typical gangbang situation or to make it quite harder for them.
Quote: | You can change an ally after the alliance lasted for 10 years or more.

A slightly different phrasing would be good (and right now my head seems void of any possible alternative). The intention is not to force players into alliances of at least 10 years but to disallow switching allies to perhaps circumvent the rules.

I'd like to join this game if the entry list isn't closed yet.
For the records, I am a fresh-off-the-press newbie (only 1 multiplayer game over LAN with my bro) but with some experience in the game as such (several successful singleplayer conquests, hours upon hours of various race testbed running). I'm willing to cut my teeth (or have them knocked out) in a real bar brawl with the sharks out there.
Racefile sent to the host.
