I have set up a test bed game with two human players and no AI. I am using this to test battles between different ships and starbases etc.

Each turn has to be submitted manually ("Save and Submit") for each player then the .HST file opened and the turn generated.

This works fine for the start of the game but I would like to get up to higher Tech and this is going to take a long time.

Is there a command line option for automatically submitting every turn and generating the next year? If there was a script to do this I could automatically generate say 50 or 100 years and reach higher Tech quickly.

I know there would be no exploration or expansion but that doesn't really matter. The races could just stay on their Home World.

You don't really need to submit each turn, you can gen as much turns as you need without submitting turns at all. And also you could use Shift+Gen or Ctrl+Gen to gen a bunch turns in row.

Thank you - I thought each player had to submit a turn but I've just tried your suggestion and it works fine.

I was forever setting up testbeds for this, too, until I found the Battlesim Testbed on Stars Wiki. Look for Battlesim Tested under the calculator section.

You can also generate multiple turn using the command line, the format is stars!.exe -g# game.hst to generate # turns.

You can also submit turns for those two players by changing settings in host mode window.
Set up your production qeues for those two players. In the host mode screen, right click on each player and set the player to "Human (currently inactive)"-- AI controlled. This will auto-submit turns and also do auto productions: like if you had next lowest field setting in tech research, for example.

Then just hit the enter key as fast as you can to gen turns. When done, at the year you desire, set the players back to human controlled, or else it will ask for password before you can access them.

The shift-click(10x) and ctrl-click(100x) work on the generate turns button of the host dialog to generate 10 and 100 turns respectively too.

In additon, Ctrl-Shft-click (or at least Ctrl-Shft-F9) will generate 1000 turn, if you need that many.
