Hello,
I just played stars! with my brother for a solid week.

No other game has that kind of staying power.

So, I started surfing around and found this site. Apparently I have an account here, typed in what I thought my username and password might have been, and BAM. It all still works!

I was the artist working with JEff on SSNG. I still have all of the source files somewhere... going to open them up and take a little trip down memory lane.

So, I just wanted to pop in and lament the death of Stars!... one more time...

I've been playing it for +10 years (+40 games) and it's still the best game ever!

Minesweeper is a close second.

Proof that STARS! is not dead: I am living proof that this game still gather newbies around!

I even made a review on a well established Abandonware site last year.

Better yet, 20 people rated the game frigging 4.6 on a total of 5 for a game made for Windows 3.11.

STARS! is a great gem game. Gem games never fade away.

I see them running the potential newbies, fast and far from a game with old nerds and a game "a little better" than minesweeper.

Make sure you browse the "new games" section for games of possible interest to you. There's plenty of "for newbies" and "for rusty old-timers" games!

Ageing, and cranky, and begging for a worthy heir, perhaps. But far from dead.

Now r.g.c.s has become a spam graveyard, but all the old posts are still there. That's a power trip down memory lane!

Speaking of which, perhaps someone should archive all those gems in case Google decided to pull the plug...

I would mention that Sword of the Stars is a pretty close spiritual successor to Stars!, and really takes up the mantle that SSNG would have carried. I do recommend it (in addition to, not as replacement of) Stars!. They're making a sequel to it now, so who knows... send the devs your resume/portfolio and you might have a chance to get onboard.

Edit: Would non-disclosure even mean anything now that Empire is dead?
