Creche 2 has ended prematurely due to a egregious rules infraction by one of the players. Twisted Evil Therefore, I hope others agree with me declaring the Mightyboosh as winners. Congrats Dave/Vostromo! I would also like to thank our host, Iojho, who has undoubtedly dealt with a lot of drama in this one. I look forward to playing with all of you again.

As for me, I enjoyed the game thoroughly. I have only played HP JOATs until this, so I was dumbfounded by the speed at which -f IT can expand. It was relatively simple to hem in and then to popdrop a neighbor into oblivion, as I did with the Birds. However, -f is non-stop balls to the wall. Instead of continuing to build fleets and to expand, I chose to terraform some planets and research W16 first. With a 19% growth rate, my planets filled up faster than expected, and my total growth fell off a cliff. I was surprised by the Myth's attack around 2440, but it was a good kick in the behind. I started building warships once again, while taking only acceptable losses. The main issue was wasting valuable resources crashing Myth's minefields. My hab range also didn't mesh well with theirs. Therefore, I hoped to contain the Myth while attacking the Mags, who had several large green planets within range, around 2450. Unfortunately, Patrick's absence from the game led to a one-sided confrontation. On the last generated turn, I was fourth in score. I would appreciate any comments or criticism on my play.

Although it ended prematurely i learnt a lot from this game.

The game started pretty bad for me as immediately my homeworld was revealed by the Ciscoids 2nd world. (We were both IT and within gate range... Rolling Eyes ) This coupled with an aggressive diplomatic style by the Ciscoid was to dominate most of my early game. You would think with different hab ranges and both being IT we could have worked some deal that would have been very beneficial with respect to an alliance but whether by choice or not the Ciscoid tried to impose a border which was clearly unworkable. Thinly veiled threats from his direction made him seem more of a target than a partner. When i was sure i had won over the Magratheans and the Morgarten i pop dropped a colony and instigated the 3M alliance to remove him.

I had the Magratheans directly above me and from the start we were pretty happy with the situation and quickly agreed a border treaty. Initially, i had thought of them as a possible target (their homeworld was a 100% world to me and a couple of others were 80% plus early on) but tech trading went well, despite me managing to cock up on one trade (a genuine mistake Patrick if you read this...) and in the end the Ciscoid were clearly my 1st target.

The Morgarten were south of my position and we had a nice natural border between our worlds. I think i had to work to convince Brian that the Ciscoid were the target to be eliminated despite them pop dropping one of his worlds early on. I guess it was because of counter information from the Ciscoid. In the end i played it straight and told everything as i knew/saw it truthfully in the hope of gaining their trust. I think it was probably beneficial to him anyway to have the Ciscoid removed.

It's worth mentioning something that caused me a few headaches. I was playing between two computers for the 1st 15 years or so and I noticed that my scanning reports were changing virtually year upon year. I was losing information about worlds i had been to. Turns out that i should have been transferring another file which contained the scanning data between the computers.... i think it's an .m file or something? Anyway, i played on one computer from then on but i was always behind in scanning and scouting which probably explains my aversion to other races scouts in my space for those that experienced it.

It's a pity the game ended when it did as the Tribe/Polinae alliance would have been a pretty even fight for the Magratheans and myself up north. I feel with my economy (i had 24k by 2550) and the fact that the Polinae were also at war with the Myth (who i found out after the game were ranked 2nd) would have meant that it would have been very hard for them to make progress. The Tribe worlds were very nice for me and i'm sure that the Mags and myself could have sorted out a deal.

It's hard for me to judge how later it would have gone as i had virtually no contact with the Myth and had misjudged their strength. I guess it would have depended on what the Morgarten decided to do in that region.

Things i messed up: Tech trading, scanning and scouts, some early ship designs. Race design Sad as Iojho will confirm it took me 3 attempts to get a workable race design!!

Things i like to think i did well: Managed my economy, diplomacy and i had some crushing tactical battles against the Ciscoid.

It is the .h file that holds your scanning history. When you open a .m file and do a save+submit for the first time the .h file is updated with the new data (planet data, enemy ship designs).
It's the only file that you need to transfer between computers. Be sure to always use the last updated. Wink
