Hello Homeworld dwellers, I've come to colonise your forum!
I've been lurking here for a couple weeks now and figured it's about time for me to register in order to introduce myself formally.
It is I, James Nightstar long lost stars demo player from way back in the Win 3.1 days.
Here's the low down on how I come to be here:
I was reminiscing with a friend about the wonder years of the internet prior to the WWW, (you know the gopher protocol era, before viagra spam, when real men used CLI, when you had to cut and paste your binaries for pr0n ... before MS bundled browsers!) when I struck upon the recollection of Stars! although the name of the game escaped me at the time.
I played the tech demo quite a bit in the PC lab at school(and work) but that was back in the day, so you can imagine my surprise when I discovered this enclave of dedicated Stars! fans.
After conducting a little research I DL'd myself a copy of jrc4. Following the breadcrumb trail to the list of serials wasn't difficult and it allowed me to relive the magic of beating up on the anemic Ai. I'm glad that I did too, because it's been a while since my last bout of game addiction and I needed a fix.
Despite all the fancy pixels, animations and shadow/lighting effects, the schlok the game industry attempts to pawn off on contemporary PC gamers is lacking in depth and balance. RTS has become Whack-a-mole with cutscenes, pan, tilt and zoom. My RSI doesn't permit shooter's anymore(good thing since they have only been dumbed down since CS unscoped the M4). Furthermore successive releases are merely rehashed games I've already played barring the appearance of 3D multiplayer RPGs and the lackluster MMOs they spawned. Thus it is that I find myself gravitating to turn based strategy. Despite Stars! lack of such Graphical niceties it has a depth and diversity that I find rather apealing.
And so... I would like to play some HUMANS! err I mean Aliens.
I haven't a unique serial nor paypal nor credit cards with which to acquire one by the usual means, but my broke ass wants to play some Stars! I understand one can't play on AH wif teh numbers from teh internets.
(Ron if you listening, how about I snail mail you a ten spot with a real post card in a bubble envelope, you must have a PO box right? They say cash is king!)
If anyone has any helpful suggestions or ideas I'll check back here periodically, until then I guess I'll beat up the poor AI (I'll play WM Weapons expensive to give it a chance ; )

Hi there, welcome to the newbie zone !!
Till Ron gets back to you for a serial that works with Stars autohost, you could use the "list of serials" you came across .. I remember using those to play against the AI 10 years ago
There's also a few legit serials floating around too, but I'm guessing those have been banned on stars autohost for various reasons (cheating etc ) We could use those to play as well.
I'm playing my 1st human game, the same autohost game as Quasimodo but as he said, we 'freshers' are always game for more... games
I would love to give you some practice playing "aliens" too, so if you want to play a game send me a mail on
ironhair+stars (a@t) gmail (d.t) com
I was used to playing Large and Huge universes, but from experience my suggestion would be to play tiny or small universes.. medium takes forever in a 3 player game, let alone a 1:1.
