What to get first: nubians or armageddons?

If the game allows for a long initial development, and thinking ahead to the end-game, is it better to have Nubians with inferior weapons, or BBs with superior weapons?

Specifically, if you can only take either weapons or construction cheap, and the other normal, which is best to take cheap in above mentioned game?

Recently I busted out Armageddon BB's and with that tech way ahead of everyone It allowed me to get the win. I had W cheap and C expensive, I wish i had normal C.

But for example if someone had Nubians and They were fighting me with BB's no matter what the tech I used on them I am pretty sure Nubs would win over Armageddon BB's. My noob opinion would also say that when people start having around W 20 there is usually a gruesome push to reach Nubs first or around the same time as other players do.

Hopefully this one opinion gives you insight and helps.

Techtrading allowed?

If there is time for initial development without fighting you might be better of with cheap con. Gets you LFs and bigger gates sooner. Those would help the development more than weap tech (rad terra is nice though) ...

Also not fair: arma's are at weap24, nubs at con26. Wink

Con26 is a hard long push with as good as nothing useful between con13 and the end. While weap has something significant every 4 levels or so ... that can work both ways, again depending on the time you think you have ...

I always thought weapons cheap is a must so I did not try taking weapons normal/expensive. However, I meet on my way several times races with weapons expensive. They had no chance!

On the other hand, constructions cheap is also nice and it can make you a winner. Like in Antagonism, I was 2./3. in score but as only active player had construction cheap, I won having fleets of nubians!

Why to choose. The best is to take both cheap IMO Smile

I'd say Nubs are better, provided you don't fall too behind in Weaps tech. 2 Guns

The Nubian hull is lighter than the BB, way more flexible, durable, gateable, allows you to design all kinds of specialist ships... Deal

OTOH, if everybody is stuck at BB tech and you have the best weapons to kill these comparatively weaker ships, you might get the win, too, but praying all the way nobody gets Nubs before you're ready for the final kill. Lurking

If you'll have only one advanced tech, either Const or Weaps, you'll do better with Const13 and great Weapons than otherwise. Dueling

But it all depends. Trading Weapons is easy. Nub tech is a great card in business deals out there. Everybody has seen FF hordes, CCs killing BBs, BBs killing Nubs... Pirate

Last but not least, most players take Weaps as their cheapest tech. They must really like that Radiation Terraforming... Rolling Eyes

I pretty much always take both Con and Weap cheap. Really, I usually take Con/Weap/En cheap, but Con and Weap for sure as i need the Con for freighters/SDs early and the Weap to protect what I grab Pirate

While speed is not the essential thing that some people believe is IMO it does become so when you have Nubs v BBs. If you are able to build Nubs with BS > 2 then you can get a lot of free shots v BB beamers if your opponent has R2 v your R3. If it's the other way around then your advantages are in ship cost & weight (weight will let you to get in range in the same battle round if the BB has BS > 1) but you would have to be able to withstand the first shot or spend a lot in Germ to out-init the BB. So you may be able to successfully use weapons that are a generation inferior.

If the beamer situ works out then u should be able to use chaff for long enough for your beamers to close in on the BB Armas once the enemy beamers are dealt with.

If tech exchange is allowed I would always take the cheap Con. If not then it's a gamble either way.

Hi ,

If you are in the Middle - Endgame it never mind if you have weapon or Con cheap or both the one with more minerals will win.

Without techtrade always go for weapon cheap the BS with good weapon will kill you before you reach nubians exept you have only fools around you. ( He is not building ships ... why ? He research so attack !)

With techtrade you could try to go for con cheap and trade with your ally weapons ( most have weapon cheap), but you have to find an ally with weapon cheap or you are dead.
