Hey all, sorry if this is in the wrong place, I am only rejoicing in my enlightenment to an active Stars! community!
I have loved this game for a long time, and have never played a multiplayer game w/ another person before. I'm studying up on how it all works, since it seems a bit complicated in comparison with other multiplayer games, but I'm sure I'll get the knack for it.
Anyhow, I'll be around, and hopefully playing once I get the basic multiplayer setup going. Can't wait to play my "first" game!

P.S. Anyone from Cincinnati out there?
P.P.S. I see there is a "FreeStars" game coming out next month, is it actually 3d? Or is it akin to the Stars 2 or whatnot?

Welcome Mindworm.
There are indeed more of us, all over the world.
Playing in a multiplayer game is no more difficult than playing against the computer - Winning a multiplayer game is another matter, though. In one respect it is actually easier to play in a multiplayer game, because the game host sets up the game.
Hosting a multiplayer game is more work, and more complicated, but you don't need to do that. Each game usually has 8-10 players and a host - Who might also be a player in the game, that is termed a "playing host".
I hope you find a game to join soon - Just remember, no matter how well you can do against "expert" AIs, you are a beginner against other humans.
Freestars is (for now) intended to behave like Stars! does, minus some bugs. In the longer run, it will be possible to configure various aspects of the game to allow unusual setups. Freestars will have some more eyecandy, though, the graphisc will be full colour.
You should also be aware that the Freestars coming out next month isn't a finished game, there are parts of the game engine that haven't been implemented yet. It is a beta version to allow those who like such things to test whether the parts that have been implemented work correctly.

Welcome Mindworm:
I am just north of you, in Southern Ontario. Welcome. Just jump in and play a beginner game against other humans. Sounds like you already know the basics. You won't develop bad habits playing against humans....

Dayton, close enough considering we have people from all over the world.
