Game Idea: Stars Olympics

In hosting SAS3, the first three players signed up were from Canada, Germany, and Australia.

I thought it might be fun to do a Stars Olympics game.

10 players (each from a different country). Maybe Medium uni. Each country could send their best Stars player. If there are fewer countries than 10 around here, we could adjust size.

In case of dispute, we could do some quick blitz playoff games to see who represents a certain country in the Stars Olympics.

Countries I know about hanging around here:
1. America
2. UK
3. Germany
4. Australia
5. Canada
6. Poland
7. ?? That's all I can think of. Any players from Russia? Spain? Middle East? Asia? Any Latin American players?

The alliances could become quite amusing. Smile

How about this idea? Good or bad? Feasible? Suggestions? Any interest? Stakes are high... it's geographic pride after all. Wink

Race names would be Americans, Germans, etc...

Over the past few months I have been thinking about something similar with a working title of "World Championship" or "World Series" (a real world series as opposed to the Baseball "World Series" which is restricted to North America).

Though I like your idea John, I would rather open it up to include everyone & making it country based wouldn't do that. examples of players that would not qualify are Micha (Belgium), Gible (New Zealand), Ptolemy (Finland), Iztok (Slovenia) + players from many other countries such as Russia (several), Sweden, South Africa, Italy, Ukraine, etc.

So my idea was to make it regional & to run it as a Championship. For example:
North America
Europe
Asia (including Oceania)
Rest of The World

Each region has a seperate Championship & any number of players (up to 16) could enter their Regional Championship. The 4 Regional Champions compete to become the World Champion.

All races set to Enemy, no random events. Regional Championships end in, say, 2490? World Championship is a standard 4-player (maybe more - see Other Ideas 3 & 4) game.

PRTs would be handicapped to level the playing field.

Other Ideas:
1. Limit Championships to players who have played more than 6 games or won at least 2 games.
2. Regional Qualification: If (1) implimented then maybe non-automatic qualifiers play off for a spot (by duelling?) in the Regional Championship
3. Current Duelling Champion automatically qualifies for the World Championship?
4. Players who have won at least 5? games &/or played 20+? games automatically qualify for the World Championship?

That's about where my thinking was at.

We could call it the World Cup, and have qualifiers. We could have random pools, like they do in soccer.

Regional may be better for national and regional pride...

I like the idea.
