 I was wanting to toy around with changing things in Stars!, like the AI and the MT toys, etc.. I know about some things, but am interested in finding out how to do more.

(I do understand that Autohost only runs unmodified 2.6jrc4. BTW, was there ever a 2.7jrc4 with sound?)

I've looked at the Stars! Wiki subject.

I have StarEd. Version 1.2 can't modify jrc4. When I try it on jrc3, I see I can change the numbers in tech things and even edit the ship layouts. But I don't see how to enable MT toys--but that would have to be in the game files; is it in the .hst file?

I've looked over the information in the Stars! Wiki for PaulCr Player Editor and Host Editor, but some links to his website are now dead and there's not a lot of information on what to do. Any suggestions?

 Hi Mark,

There is much to read about modding in the VML lounge.

I believe the later builds of Stars! removed the sound to avoid a software conflict.

I run a 2.70 version and there is sound in battles. But believe me, you are not missing anything out there... You can barely make the difference. Most of the time I playback my battles without sound anyways.

 AFAIK the only difference between the jrc3 and jrc4 version(s) relate to automated turn generation on sites like Autohost, there should not be any difference related to actual game play.

I agree with Eagle of Fire, I also run 2.7jrc3 (which has sound during battles), but I normally don't switch on my speakers, that sound serves no practical purpose.

 Oh yes, the 2.7 versions have sound. I remember the cute sound effects for the different weapons in the battle VCR. Cool

But I play 2.6jrc4 now, which better simulates the silence of dying in the vacuum of space. Smile
