XyliGUN is new replacement. They should be ready in time to have the game remapped again this weekend so we can start during the week.

Send the race to mark hewitt for check and he can send to gible or paulrc i forgot whos gonna do it.

I'll probably end up asking Paul to do it, but I'll have a go first. I've reinstalled my computer coz I had a suspicion that VS2005 might have been interfering with it, also rebuilt all the race files and tried planetswapper but still no luck - it still doesn't work. Maybe altering the one race file will be enough tho I doubt it. If all else fails (and Paul isn't willing) I can create it the hard way.

If it comes to doing it the "hard" way I'm pretty experienced with that. I've created a number of games without problem.

Let me know if I can help. Setup done the hard way should not take more than a couple of days.

I've received XyliGUN's race file and it meets the team requirements.

Deuce sent me an updated version of his race so I've included it in the files I passed on to Gible. It just changes the race hab slightly.

Gible now has all the files.

Err that file was sent with the assumption that my teammates were updating as well. Did you get theirs?

Don't get me wrong, but I'd agree with ccmaster. Common, you have much more time to work on your races than I, and my teammates doesn't change their races. My changes was minor just to reflect my playing style a little bit, and after all I have to change my race name. Wink

But in general I doesn't see a problem if someone brings a bit more fun in his game. So it's up to sliimdrag00n whether he allows that or not.

Let's start it ...

Our team was plagued by vacation/business trips during the design phase so was a bit rushed.

Either way is fine.

Hi ,

no changes for other teams or teammates ... normaly no changes at all it is only a replacement what has the luck to be there from the beginning .

Everychange made to races with the knowing of the new setting , special Hab changes and Faktorie Mine settings will give real big advantages for the players changing.

Deuce, I only got your updated race file. Up to slimdrag00n to call whether you get to update or not. I've sent your file to Gible; he can use the original (or I'll send it again) or slimdrag00n okays the update. If your team wants to get the change, I suggest they get their files in too.

I've tried SHEing the new fileset but I'm getting the same errors. I have contacted Paul about it but unless he can be sure the gamefiles will work I'll pass them on to AlexTheGreat to remap "the hard way". In either case, slimdrag00n, you need to make a ruling re Deuce's team's new files before I will do either.

We'll reduce the headache and just use the old files. It's not all that important in the end.

The only person redoing their race file is the replacement. Its up to him and the team if they want to keep the old race or make a new one and work around the existing teams habs ect..Everyone else's race should be the same.

Good luck to the remapping. Thanks for working on it and the issues.

I have... Created the game. Determined which planets get swapped. Discovered a number of bugs that occur over several gens. Handed the files to PaulCr.

Paul has had a fiddle with them and thinks he can determine the cause fairly quickly but a solution may take as long as the weekend. (and I'll do more tests of my own when he's finished, just to make sure.)

Gible wrote in an email to PaulCr

If it was my game I'd say take as long as you need and getting the tool right is more important yadda yadda, but its not my game. I'll let slimdrag00n know anyway and if he doesn't want to wait, at least we(you) still have the files to fix the tools Smile

slimdrag00n, I'm happy to send the race files to AlexTheGreat if you don't want to wait. You're the host, the choice is yours. Smile

I'm just wondering if gible and AlexTheGreat uses different tools for remapping universe? Just interesting ...

If I understand correctly gible is working together with PaulCr using a new set of tools while AlexTheGreat is doing it old school ... which (I know from experience) can be very time consuming.

Yep, that's basically correct.

I use a small tool of my own which gives me a penscan of every planet in the universe & I use a technique that speeds things up so each regen takes around 2-3 minutes.

This game setup is quite a difficult one because each alliance must occupy their own quadrant & any HW2s (IT,PP) must also end up in the same quadrant as their HW. I would estimate that about 25 regens would be needed on average to satisfy that need.

This is just me but I would also not feel that the job was complete if there were any major imbalances (eg. one alliance is close to the East-West nominal border & another is much closer to the edge meaning that the first alliance is able to easily grab a lot more territory than the second). All-in-all I would expect to need about 100 regens or about 6-7 hours (2-3 days).

Skoormit generated the original Open War but I provided the scanning tool & a "How To" to him.

Pretty much, although that "working together" is more along the lines of:
* Gible swaps the planets around using tool X (~10mins work)
* Gible checks the files to see if anything is weird. (~20mins work)
Gible: EEK! Its BROKEN!
* Gible emails Paul: "Umm yeah..I broke your thing again Sad "
* Paul spends K days fixing things, gives Gible a new version of the tool for Gible to break next time and eventually ends up doing the moving himself.
* Gible checks the files from Paul and then passes them on to Ron and takes the credit Very Happy

but yeah...full credit to Paul, the reason things keep breaking is more due to the finicky structure of Stars files than anything else - the Stars internal algorithms are very sensitive to the structure being exactly right. I feel almost nagging at times having to email him for help, but he's never complained at all and blithely ignores my thanx and apologies. Compared to the days it takes AlexTheGreat (and even longer if anyone else has to do it that way), the time spent fixing the tools now is worth it IMO to reduce future remapping times - and the potential other uses of the structure information has barely been tapped I think.

I has files and they are gooood Smile

Sending them to Ron & Micha for re-uploading.

The problem was...complicated... has been completely(afaict) fixed for the hst file, but in the interests of getting the game going, player 8 (Deuce?) will need to save& submit to create the .h file - but everything should be fine after that(we has tested).

Deuce: don't forget to delete your .x file after you reload Wink
