Currently playing a private game and have come to the point that I am considering remote mining. I do not have ARM but also have not picked OBRM and can build the best miner hull and miner robots. Gateablity is not a issue for me and my race has NRSE but not IFE and I can currently build AD8's. I dont plan to put a cheap engine on since with the cost of large remote miners the engine really does not make up a large % of the total cost and since the weight is so high I would rather a better engine to increase fuel efficiency instead of needing piles of SFX's just to make a couple of warp 9 jumps. Should I wait till I have the TGD or just say good enough and put on AD8's?

In my book there are only two types of standard remote miners:
1) gateable (mini-hull, one robot, FM or QJ-5 engine). Most of the time those will be gated around, and I collect a hefty amount of SFX/LFs to move them any distance over 49 LY. I've even built 300/500 gates on red planets just to be able to gate those remotes where they'd be the most effective.
2) heavy remote (maxi hull, full robots, W-10 capable engine). Since they can't gate, you'll swear at AD-8 just about every time you'll want to move it to the next rich planet 64+ LY far.
BR, Iztok
