A friend of mine has been unable to run Stars! on his computer. It uses Vista.

Can Stars! be run on Vista at all, and if so how?

It can. But there's been reports of problems. Do you have any error messages at all? Can you give more details about what's (not) happening? Sherlock

So many Stars, so few Missiles!

I have been able to run Stars! on a Vista 32bit machine without any problems but have not been able to run it on a Vista 64bit machine. So I would guess that your friend has a 64bit version of Vista. The only workaround that I have been able to come up with is to use some kind of desktop virtualization software and run windows xp as a virtual machine. Microsoft has one called VirtualPC which is a free download. You do need to have a Windows XP installation disk though.
Good Luck

As a note, it also runs just fine on win 7 beta (64 bit).

I got an error message about 16-bit applications when I tried to run Stars! 2.7j on Windows 7 64-bit . I was able to run it with the Windows Virtual XP though. Virtual XP is free, download it from MS Technet.

Now that I can, I'm going to play a multiplayer game after many years. Razz

Hey Tuomas!

It has been many years indeed! I remember I bought 3 or 4 serials from you ... must have been 2001 or so ...

Welcome back. Smile
