im going to have to back out of this game before it starts. Im only going to have time to play the other one starting.
I mean ill still play it if you want for awhile but i cant guarantee that ill be as dedicated to this one.

We need a replacement then.

First reserve is TheShadow7478. He has first dibs if he responds within 24 hours (by GMT 21:00 Jan 23)
Second Reserve is Sully. He gets it if TheShadow7478 has not already claimed it

If neither reserve responds by Jan 24 then anyone who wants it gets it - first in.

Deadline for registration is Jan 26. If no replacement we go with 10 players.

Race file deadline:
If I specify a deadline I always mean end of day GMT time.
So when I said Jan 26 I meant Jan 26 GMT 24:00.

New race file deadline is Jan 29 to allow time for the replacement of slimdrag00n.

Who wants it?

We could also start the game with 10 players.

I have announced All Quiet II, which will have practically identical parameters, but will leave the player with more time to design their race, as there are only three players (one of them tentative) for All Quiet II so far.

If there are no takers for the spare slot within 2 days then we will go with 10 players.

Please get your race files in asap.

I have a question about "cheats". Is repair by merging as WP1 after gating considered a cheat ?

What happens is, that if you gate a fleet and gives it orders to merge with a stationary fleet at the destination, then the gated ships will be repaired as if they were stationary and part of the fleet they merged with, instead of not being repaired as is the case with gated ships that do not merge with a stationary fleet. The manual and help file seems to indicate that no repair takes place when gating (it says "moving through space", not merely "moving").

I would say that it should be allowed, as allowing it will have very little impact on the game (it slightly disadvantages HE, other races gain the same benefit), while disallowing it will clearly increase the micromanagement for the players (except HE).

Disallowing WP1 merging after gating would be the simplest way to prevent use of that bug/feature, but that would cause the greatest increase in micromanagement, while only disallowing WP1 merging after gating of damaged ships (regardless of whether the damage was due to overgating or was there before gating) would give a smaller increase in micromanagement, but would also be harder to check for, and it could happen unintentionally (someone might not notice that they were overgating, or that some of the ships were damaged).

I consider repair from merging after gating to have been accepted for so long that it has become a feature rather than a cheat so it is allowed.

For those that don't know the ships are not necessarily fully mended. The extent of repair is the same as if you had already been part of the destination fleet last year. You get:
1. One year of base repair
2. One year of SFX/Fuel Transport repair if applicable.

Everyone who has voiced an opinion on the subject agrees that coordinating between alliances is asking for exploitation, so I'd think it shouldn't be.

Simply because it would effectively remove the 3 player limit on alliances.

I thought you said the deadline was 29th of January?

I am having some heavy family trouble right now... I intend to use the full lenght of time available, if possible!

Yes, Jan 29 is the deadline. Hopefully you've done a draft race file for CCMaster or Micha to critique? Only 3 days to go.

I agree with him, especially if we talk about COORDINATED attacks. Of course one can't say, wether a simultaneous attack of two alliances hasn't been coordinated, but it's better than partially superseding the 3-player alliance limitation.

I agree, allowing any cooperation beyond NAP and special items trade would pretty much remove the 3 player limit.

That's 5 out of 10. I move that separate alliances be not allowed to militarily coordinate. Razz

NAP and tech/item trade is fine in my book though.

Your wish is my command.

No coordinated military operations will be permitted EXCEPT that a race which has no allies can seek assistance for defensive purposes.

Race file sent. Please confirm reception. Since I'm GMT -5 I'll need to use a very tight schedule to be able to send it again to you if it didn't work and if you use GMT+0 as deadline.

Yes, it's yours but race file deadline is less than 2 days - Jan 29 GMT 24:00. Can you do that?

Also still looking for race files from:

Yep, got your race file Eagle.

In fact everyone is now in & legal except Daffel.

I've sent him a PM.

Does anyone have an email address for him?

It is getting close to the deadline, what will you do if Daffel does not submit his race on time ?

I would suggest that you set up the game without Daffel if he does not submit his race on time, he can enter All Quiet II if he misses All Quiet (though there are not enough players to start All Quiet II yet). I would like All Quiet to start as soon as possible so I can start playing against human players rather than against AI, as the diplomacy and trade possibilities makes a game against human players much more interesting.
