Is it really so that noone has made a small program for manageing your games on AutoHost? No small program for checking the webpage every now and then?

What if I made one, would you use it?

(BTW, say welcome, this is my first post Smile

Check for new turns on all your games, download and upload files with Auto Host allowing for faster game play and less website reloading. That kind of stuff Smile

That's not a bad idea actually. Is it possible to do right now with how AH is set up though?

That said, I'm never in more than 2 games at a time. Anything more is crazeeeeee Razz

umm why? Autohost emails the new turn files and its only a moment to upload the .x file.

Having said that it wouldn't be all that hard to pretend to be a browser.

btw Welcome Smile

editing:Its an addiction I seem to have.

Client for Auto Host[ 12 votes ]
1. I would love it 4 / 33%
2. I would at least test it 8 / 67%
3. I would hate it 0 / 0%
4. Dont even talk about it 0 / 0%

gible:
Well, ofcourse its up to each and everyone to choos if they would like to use the program or not. I have a small "you've got mail" icon so I will notice the new turn in a few seconds but most my friends use mail clients like hotmail och yahoo and the check there mail a couple of times a day. Needless to say, having a small icon flashing in your systray would be faster and easier.

Upload would be automatic, fast and easy. Perhaps not many minutes save per game but at least a few, time is all we got after all Smile

Peptis:
Yes, it would be possible. As gigle says, you just pretend to be a webbrowser, that not so hard.

So, would it be nice or not?

Complete automation is nice to have. In particular when you have several games. But it is not essential.

While we're at it, let's automate the pop-balancing too! Smile

Welcome to the forum, Raven!

An AutoHost player has already made a Java applet that automates downloads and uploads, automatically checks a game's web page every 10 minutes or so, and creates .Fxx and .Pxx files for every .m file it downloads. He has not released it yet, that's why I havn't made it available for download. His name is Jeff Hoyt. I've just emailed him asking when it will be released.

I have, indeed, written one and have been successfully using it for a while now. AlterEgo of these parts has been using it, too. Installation is not totally idiot-proof yet and checking is kinda slow (still trying to figure that one out) but I am ready to release it.

Ron just agreed to host it here, so I'll be working with him on how he would like to do it. In the meantime, if you want a copy, email me at jchoyt@users.sourceforge.net and I'll send one to you with brief instructions. The cost will be you have to give me feedback and help fill out the instructions. It requires Java 1.4 which you can get free from Sun (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/download.html - you only need the JRE - the SDK is MUCH larger) for just about any platform. Note this will run on Windows and Linux.

Or you can wait until I get organized with Ron and get it free then Very Happy

Very brief. But sufficient. Wink I gave them to two folks already and no one has yelled yet.

No fear! It's easy. That page has two columns. One with JRE and one with SDK over it. It'll make sense once you get there.

Thanks, Jeff. Getting Java 1.4 was easy. Now I'm more or less worried about the firewall I'm behind, but I'll cross that road when I come to it. Very Happy Rolling Eyes

You're quite welcome.

The firewall itself shouldn't be a problem - I use port 80 for HTTP connections and 21 (?) for FTP connections. Now, if you have a proxy, that's a different problem. I am behind 5 nested firewalls and a web proxy and I get through no problem. Now, I had to set up the proxy parameters (on the Options tab), but once that was done, no problems.

Let me know if you run into problems.
