Hello everybody.

As the title say it, I'm a new recruit to multiplayer STARS! games. I've looked at the current games which require new players and I must say that I find none appealing. I was interested in the Fleeting Admirals game(s) however.

I have a question: why ABBS? What's so appealing in having a quickstart in this game? Don't it remove most of the (early) fun?

I'd also want to know if there was a way to request a fast game (probably a duel) here? I'd like to play a multiplayer game ASAP to get the feel of multiplayer games and am ready to play more than one turn in the same day (called blitz?). Smile

Ah, yes... And I noticed that my game seems to be ver 2.70. No letters after it. Is this normal?

It gets you to the fun parts faster. Some races (HP, HE, and AR) are a little stronger without it, so that's something to consider.

Ask for a game in the Duelling Club - or hop onto the irc (irc.starlink.org #stars!) and you might find someone who's willing to blitz with you. I might have time, on occasion. Note that most of the IRC players are rather dangerous in blitz - they can teach you a lot, they sure taught me a lot that way.

I am really not a fan of IRC, but I'll look into it. Thanks.

I believe 2.70 is the unpatched retail version. You may download the patch to "jrc3" or 2.6jrc4 (the patched registered shareware) here-

EDIT:
Very Happy Welcome

After you've done over hundred of testbeds, the growing part of the game isn't anymore the real fun, y'know. Wink

Ummm, I _strongly_ suggest you to do some serious testbedding first, just to get the grasp of the game progress and mechanics behind it. If you're not realy new, the standard 100 ARM BBs test would be just appropriate. But if you are, then reading "Tutorial - How to get over 25k resources by 2450 (BEGINNER)" in "Stars! - Must Know" section is simply a must-read (and do Wink ) for you.

No offense, but IMO you are not. Blitz is played by forced-gens, starting with 4 game years per turn. For a new player is that another big problem he neds to solve, besides the low knowledge of game mechanics.

However you can play multiple turns per day in a "private" PBEM duel, where one player is the host. The speed depends just from how fast both players submit their turns, and how often the host checks his e-mail.

BR, Iztok
