I'm more of an AR and HE person myself, and they aren't particularly spectacular monsters, so pray tell: What are the relative economic strengths of IT, IS, and JoaT?

The relative ECON strengths of IT, IS and JoAT depend on the stage of the game and size of the universe. In general

Early Game: IT builds up the fastest, JoAT is faster then IS as it has more room on the early colonies to expand.

Mid Game: JoAT is strongest as its expansion room comes into play. IT and IS is about the same.

End Game: IS & JoAT is about the same - JoAT has bigger colonies but IS can overpopulate colonies. IT lowest ecom end potential of the three.

However, I personally prefer IT then IS and then JoAT due to amount of required micromanagement for each of these races to reach its full potential: IT easiest then IS and then JoAT. IT can gate pop and mineral at will. IS does not need to move pop too much. JoAT has to MM both pop and minerals.

Because population is the base for resources the three excel. IT can move pop thru gates. IS grows in transit. JOAT holds more on planets.
IT has the advantage of gating minerals for building factories.
ITs strength (and to a smaller extent IS's strength) is more Dependant on tech level than JOAT.

I wouldn't call IS easier than JoaT. When playing IS I put quite some effort in the MM of my orgies. Calculating for each planet how much to upload to end up with 25% (or other holds) on the ground to maximize growth ... Planning when to fill up planets etc. More pop = more pop to manage. Wink

Yep, plus having to calculate the pop growth-to-travel time to accurately fill freighters being sent out to colonize/populate new worlds.

Indeed, forgot about that, as an example: uploading enough pop on freighters so when they arrive the overflow at arrival, and take that into account with the (possible) orgy in orbit so you still end up with 25% (or other holds) after all overflows and before planetary growth ... and of course calculating fuel for those travells (especially more work in the early years) ...

If you want to get the best out off your IS you need to nurture with all your care!

I recommend Stars! Calculator. It is great for IS freighter pop growth projection and has many other useful features.

As far as MM, Excel does most of the work for me. Those devs are crazy smart.

Excel does the numbers for me, but the MM (input of each fleet/planet/orgy/... into the sheet and executing the results back into Stars! again) is still done by me. Wink

Anyone knows the status of the attempts to breed Stars! MMonkeys?

Very true in the early game and part of the mid-game, however, by turn 70 - the IS pop on colonies is generally max'ed and MM of pop is much less of a burden as you more then enough pop to spread around. You do not necessarily have to manage an orge to use as a weapon - just let it be & add transport every now and then. All I am saying is that after a certain point, there is very little pop management vs. Joat.

In contrast, JoAT players have to manage breeder sites vs production sites - again both pop and minerals.
