I'm trying to find the standard PRT handicap table, and I can't. Anyone know it? I remember CA was 200, but I don't know the others.

There is a "standard" handicap table?
Wouldn't that be very dependent on game settings, universe size etc.?

I suggest browsing through the old game ads and picking a set that seems reasonable to you, or the most commonly used set. There was more or less a 'standard' set, as I recall, though it had its detractors.

This has the handicaps I used to use, which iirc I got from the standard blitz handicaps. Off the top of my head I can't locate a reference for the latter tho.

Pardon my ignorance...but you have listed all the races. Why start AR at a 50 handicap? Why not subtract 50 from each?

Probs because the race wizard gives you benefits for up to 50 leftover points, but no more.

m9m asked for the "standard" list, this is what I found here on the forum. I did not make that list, so don't ask me. Wink I did wonder about the same thing when I saw it the first time.
Note that the list that gible posted also has that:

AR 50
SS/PP 100
WM/HE 125
SD 137
IT/IS 150
JOAT 175
CA 200

Came across that list on the newsgroup as well. Not that much different ...

As I said, it's probably because points left over actually aren't useless up to 50, because they get you something. Hence, if you put AR at 0 and the others at 50-150, then the others wouldn't feel the full effect due to whatever they spend their points on. Hence hurting ARs.

You could just require to spend them on defenses, nothing as useless as that. Wink

IIRC the missing statement to those handicaps is "one can spend those points to whatever he wants". Without handicap the AR would "fell short" of 50 RW points others could spend quite beneficially.

WRT proposed handicaps: for non-team games I don't think the differrence 25 points between JoaT and CA is sufficient. If I'd allow CA I'd still require it may not take the TT, and limit the number of Orbital Adjusters it could give or lend to friends to about 10.

But then you'd have actually limited everyone's races, you see. Might as well get into specific bans if doing that.

EDIT: This was in response to Micha.

Ok, now I understand what you mean. You're talking about players that actually *want* to invest some leftover points into something.
That's indeed a possibility, I didn't consider that since I almost never do that ... can't even remember doing it once ... but it is a valid choice, for example HPs boosting their mineral concentrations since germ is their fourth "hab value".

Yeah, basically. Or more to the point, they at least get them as a compensation for leaving 50 points spare. So if you make the lowest handicap 50, it removes that. For instance, my favourite AR tri-immune has 66 leftover race points, but that isn't taken into account when assigning handicaps that those points are useful.
