| battleboard - STARS! crash trying to open |

I get an error trying to open the battleboard.
This is for Octahedron, where I have just taken over for KnightPraetor, with a new game(mfile) password generated by Ron.
I get the list of battles either by clicking on the message, or by clicking on the battles item in the menu list.
I have only one battle this turn.
When I click on the battle, I get:

STARS! (in the blue windows banner)
An error has occurred in your application.
If you choose Ignore, you should save your work in a new file.
If you choose Close, your application will terminate.
------------
Sure enuf, close exits stars.
If I click Ignore, I get:
--------------
Application Error (in the blue windows banner)
STARS! caused a General Protection Fault in module WAVEMIX.DLL at 000:3B7D.
Choose close. STARS! will close.
---------------
Any ideas for help?

Music was turned on. Battle sound effects were off.
Now they are both off, and I get the same error.
I'll try submitting and maybe it'll be fixed next turn
