This is quite an unusual concept, as it is not the game, but what happens around it that sees the most change.

Those that are interested (and it can be as many as we like) sign up, and the first 16 (or if less than 16 the ones who have signed up by a given date) are chosen for the first round. Any leftovers go into a waiting list.

Then, a game is begun with all universe settings randomised. Apart from this, the rules will be vanilla, no cheating or taking advantage etc, alliances may be made and broken at any time etc. I will go into greater depth closer to the creation of this game.

Players play their turn, and as well as uploading to Autohost, they submit their .p file to the host. The host uses these to create a territory and such map, and then posts it on the public forums somewhere (I'll have to sort this out). Everyone (participating or not) can see the balance of power in the game, hence the name "Gladiator pit".

This gives you the unusual advantage of knowing where the other players are, but all players have the same advantage, so it is fair.

Though alliances are allowed, this game is essentially a Free for All. Therefore alliances are not binding, and you should watch your 'friends' with perhaps even more suspicion than your enemies, because as with Gladiators, there can only be one winner.

Once the game ends, the bottom 8 players are replaced with 8 players from the waiting list. As for the winner, he gains a "point", which he can use if he happens to be in the bottom 8 of a later match. If he uses the "point", it is lost, but it means that he will be moved up one place per point in the ranking for the next match (so if he were in the bottom 8 in a later match, points can be used to allow himself into the next game).

Once the new fixtures have been determined, the next game starts with a new random map, and the whole process repeats.

I think this setup will add an extra twist to the game, as it will keep players playing, but I believe it will bring out extra cunning in people, and an extra will to do well and show off, as the whole stars community can see your progress (or at least your territory growth).

So, who's interested?

I think you seriously underestimate the time length of a big game of Stars.

What for all this rankings and lists? There is already one and the interest in using it is very low... for understandable reasons.

Ranking: a system how to setup and play ranked games.
And additionally to a ranking there is also the shoot it out option at the Duelling club.
