OK, this has been done to death, but it's been bugging me again this week.

Looking at the races I've played, seen or made, I keep thinking the minimum viable hab for a non-immune HG (non-CA, non-TT) is around 1 in 6 in a reasonably speedy game (say, ~30 planets per player, dense or packed universe).

Anyone have experience winning with a non-imm HG with narrower hab than 1 in 6 in a reasonably vanilla universe that they care to share?

Cheers,
S.

Yup.
IT is so damned expensive that I am usually playing it with a hab of 1 in 7. And sometimes I even win: Infight

In the above game the 1 in 7 hab-IT had 31k res in 2455, weap 16, con 13 (altogether 10-16-9-13-11-6) and lots of firepower all over the universe. Joseph was my very valuable ally and providing a good part of the above mentioned tech, of course.

While I certainly would like to go with a better hab, IT is THE PRT to get away with 1 in 7, though. And so far i haven't succeeded in creating a HG-IT-race design I'd like to play with that has better than 1 in 7 hab. Probably it would be a -f... at least for me.

Didn't think of IT. 1 in 7 because you didn't take NAS?

Umm how do you use notebook properly to display those nice pictures? How did you get the .pla files for all the players?

And how did you get the relevant ones for the correct years?

You don't need the .p files from all players, it would of course give a more accurate image, but you can use your own .p file showing only your own scans. (In some games I hosted I used a neutral observer race that had super penscan nubs all over the universe in 2405 or so, for example, done with Xtreme Borders).

BTW, in the stars.ini file you should add "Newreports=1" under the [Misc] section, IIRC puts more info into the .p files and also numbers your .p file, so instead of .pla you get .p1 if you are player1.
