Thought it may be interesting to have a game run where everyone plays the same monster CA (one that is, say, a little bit broken on the mins but not too much Smile). Probably use a mapped universe to equalise player location/star density/etc.

Idea is that it really does hinge on player skill to win.

How has this type of game fared in the past?

Xdude hosted some games like this, I played only played in IROC WM. There were also CA and JoaT Olympics IIRC.

From wikipedia:

International Race of Champions, better known as IROC, was an auto racing competition, promoted as an equivalent of an All-Star Game or The Masters. Drivers raced identically-prepared stock cars set up by a single team of mechanics in an effort to make the race purely a test of driver ability.

Different in such a way that everybody wants the same planets. Wink Gives a different view on alliances ...

There was a whole series of IROC games, I think the goal was to do every PRT, I don't think they played all 10, but I'm not sure which PRTs didn't get done.

I looked over one person's files for IROC WM, and it seemed like a lot depended how habitable the worlds around you were. And how habitable the worlds around your neighbors were.

It might make more sense to play with 3Is and BMM turned on. I'd force gen 500 turns or so with queues set to alchemy so that everyone starts with enough pop to make the game interesting.

This I could do with Stars Host Editor - hell, instead of making everyone 3i, could just make every planet perfectly centerd.

Either of those suggestions leads to the removal of a (very minor) element of such a game, in that those who focus heavily on terraform tech could usefully settle more planets earlier. That could be interesting, especially with a TT race...

I'm more inclined to prefer this to going 3i. Just sayin'

It would certainly fit the title as each and every race would be a 1WW hab - but would have every world as 100%

Even with a fairly conservative design that makes for 4K a world - and some cheap techs. Hmmm
