For those who are intersted I've made an animated map of the AI progress over the years.

The map can be viewed/downloaded here. It's 2.70MB in file size.

Years 2400->2430 are in steps of 5 years, 2430->2490 in 3 years.

In the third screen (+/- year 2415) you'll see an orange dot appear far from the position of our two HWs, that was a fortunate WH which probably contributed to our victory.

I hope to write up the story later ... <sigh> so many others still around unfinished ... :-/

If I read the game description correctly, every player played two races and wasn't allowed to have another ally. So why did Micha AND Gianluca win?

Because no way I'm mad enough to play TWO races in a large/dense universe! By 2460 I owned almost 100 planets, imagine the MM and because of teams not starting together and because of the early WH we were fighting almost every team during the entire game, at least 4-5 fronts from the start ...
Before the game started I asked the host and he agreed I played as a team with Gianluca.

Micha played one race (WM, I think) AND Gianluca played the other one race (JoAT).

That's correct, I played the warmonging Nees while Gianluca was in command of the JoaT House Cats (not to be confused with the HE called Fluffy Ears/Sharp Claws ).

To give this post some purpose while I'm at it, the other teams were (in order of appearance):

The Mythical & The Sharp Claws, SS and (3i) HE

The Blob & The Plop, IS and SD

The Anatomica (both races), JoaT and ... IS? Not sure, one of them was in the SW corner which was the only place we didn't fought before the end of the game.

The Rangers & The Eklona, SS and IS

The Althalus & The Garath, IS and AR (tell me again AR are weak! <g>)

The BADGERS & The OWLS, WM and SS

The WhoAreWe & The WeAreYou, JoaT and SD
