Now if Micha does take AR that would make things very interesting. Everyone knows where he is and someone could try to quickly run up there and take out his SB.
The victory condition is to colonize Micha's HW, correct? There is no time constraint on this, no, "Must colonize and hold for x turns?"
|
An agreement by the underdogs to take our the top dog early is a good idea, but it is unlikely to happen. To send a fleet across the universe gives Micha too much time to prepare a response. And no one is going to send such a fleet without at least one colonizer. There is also an incentive to backstab especially by a SS to covertly colonize that HW even if everyone agrees not to colonize it.
To survive the initial wars, the underdogs are likely to be -f or HG. The Host has time to develop, at least 30+ turns - more likely 50+ turns before there are any serious threats. The Host environment is ideal for AR play and is, thus, Micha's best option in my opinion.
I would guess that Micha is testing AR designs that would give him Nubians very early on, probably by turn 50 or so. Even co-operatively, the underdogs will not get Nubians until 60+ turns. It will give Micha enough time to take space, with enough space, the Host AR can not be beaten even if one of the underdogs is also AR.
So unless Micha is restricted from taking AR, there is a good chance that the underdogs will not be able to take down the Host. With any other PRT, it is almost a certainty the Host can be taken down unless Micha is very very good

There may be room for one (or two) races yet... neither Coyote or Ashlyn have responded to my prompting today...
so, if you are interested, ... don't ask, just fire off a racefile and password to me... I will take them in on a first-come-first served basis.

dj

Good question
I'm still trying to find a seed... I got one that was close... but cramped up too many players in one corner of the triangle...
So I'm still hunting for a seed... then when that is done I need to normalize the homeworlds...
I ran quite a few scenarios this weekend, found none to my satisfaction, but I haven't given up hope...
when will it start? hmmm, likely I will have the game to Ron by the weekend coming...
please be patient...
(btw: if i find a seed that places the homeworlds reasonably, i will go to maim and ask for help to normalize, and fix the mc's... i don't want the mc's to be a hinderance)
regards,
les

Hi everyone,
While considering the changes to the MCs, I noticed a problem that donjon may not have taken into account - I'll send him the files modified per the simple version of his directions, but I think there's a detail which still needs to be corrected.
I don't know if Donjon intends to have the starting year be 2400 or 2401 - if 2400, then please be aware the year 2400 M files you get will NOT include the changes I make (as these are only being done in the HST file, and thus won't "appear" until 2401). This just means that the climate and MC data you read in your 2400 turn file may be inaccurate. The climate element is just a minor irritation - everyone has (per the rules) every climate parameter centred or immune anyway. The MC thing is slightly more significant - the HST file will calculate the new (2401) turn correctly (IE using the modified MCs), however, the data you see in 2400 will be wrong - including in particular the projected mining rates. However, given that you'll presumably have enough surface minerals lying around to tide you over for one year's production, even this should be irrelevant for everyone's initial planning.
Donjon, if you're around, please drop by IRC (otherwise I'll send you an email shortly).
see you and enjoy
-- Wumpus
Edit 16.3.2008 17:34 CET: No race in the game is impacted by the changes which had me worried, so that's a moot point. HST file will be on the way back to donjon right after this is posted

Hi People,
OK, I've submitted the game to Ron.
I have a slight embellishment from what Wumpus said above.
This is a remapped game, which means that all planets are not where they were in the original gen...
This means that all players must move all of their ships on the first turn, either to their homeworld, or a close by star; then make sure you save & submit (ctrl A.)
When you open your movefile the first time you will note the following bad memories (chuckle)
1. Boranium MCs are at 30 on hw.
2. Germanium MCs are at 30 on hw.
3. Your habs are not centered if you have an immunity.
As I say, these are bad memories...
When you open your next turn (after the gen for 2401) you will note
1. Boranium MCs are much nicer.
2. Germanium MCs are much nicer.
3. Your habs are totally centered.
And this is the way it will stay until the end of the game
Now, we need to be patient and wait for Ron to put up the game.
Make sure you thank Wumpus for his help on this one... without his help I was definitely lost.
regards,
dj
