Just had the rather weird experience of having a packet inbound from an evil and wicked aggressor. Naturally I did not want any of my beloved folk dying an agonising and painful death, so I lifted all the pop onto a smelly cattle freighter as a manual WP0.

When the packet hit, Stars! turned around and said it was launched by another player! Certainly I expected the part of the message that told me that the packet hit but none of my pop was killed (there was none there to kill) ... but I didn't expect it to have the name of the race launching the packet changed. Shocked

Does this mean I now have a valid reason to attack another player???!!! (Do I really need a valid reason to attack another player?? Twisted Evil )

The only thing I can think of is that the race it was changed to is the .M1 race. All in all, very odd.

Anyone else had this packet-launcher-name-changed-on-strike thing happen and I am rehashing an old bug?

Cheers,
S.

Maybe there was a cloaked SS packet incoming that you didn't see. And then the other packet didn't give a message since the first hit made the planet uninhabited.

Nah, one is a CA and the other an SD. No cloaked packets hiding there.

I haven't seen this as such but I did get a message in Bab5 v2 saying that the Minbari (player 1) had bombed me at Saturn which was not even a planet in the universe.

I sent my files to the host & he informed me that the message was not there! It certainly was for me - this was the message:

"Minbari fleets have bombed Orbiting Saturn, destroying -1471 of your defenses, factories and mines. Planetary defenses destroyed 166% of the incoming bombs."

That looks like a serious and potentially game-corrupting (or at least turn-corrupting) bug. Sherlock Shocked

IIRC, I have seen it at least once in the past. The false culprit was a dead player, that's why I noticed. Twisted Evil

Perhaps it's happened more times but I didn't realize the names were wrong. Sherlock

It also happens with battle reports. Races that weren't even present at the battle site get blamed as attackers, or hailed as losers... Even the battle debris gets assigned to the wrong "owner" sometimes. Going insane
