I've just gone through the "minefield" where all the active games are. And I've noticed that the vast majority of them are either on hold or over. Is our community shrinking that much? Or is this a seasonal occurrence that'll pass?

I'd say a bit of both. Confused Lets hope the new trends in "scenario" or "themed" games helps. Teleport

Additionally, the 'minefield' isn't completely accurate. If you go to a game page, the drop down list in the upper right contains the list of all game pages. The minefield doesn't have them all listed.

Sadly though, the player community is shrinking a little each year.

Though we often ask how and why, we must also do to get the answers to the questions.

Although I got the impression that since several month we have a trend of quite many new players joining and quite some oldtimers rejoining after several years of absence.

I guess it helps to announce new games not only at autohost but also via the old usenet group rec.games.computer.stars. While there aren't many posting nowadays, I think that there is still a vast passive and read-only community attached to it.

It also help that it is easy to get a unique serial number via Ron now.

I've got 24 unique serial numbers that I share with people I invite in. Most of them.. Okay.. All of them right now don't play. But I've got their names down on my list anyway. I dug those numbers up years and years ago. It's not easy to find usable J patch serials online but I managed. Smile

I had no idea that minefield didn't show all the games. Well, guess there's some hope there at least.

Often I don't include 2 player games in the minefield, unless its an official Duel.
